Hi there! Welcome to my blog! I’m so glad you’re here!

My name is Julie. I’m an instructional designer and technical writer with over 20 years of experience in the field. My path has been fulfilling, marked by learning and growth.
After earning my double BA Honours in Psychology and English, I began my career in finance at a large national mortgage-financing corporation, where I discovered my passion for training and development. Over fifteen years, I moved through various training and the training management roles, overseeing the training and development of departments, then divisions and ultimately training operations for all offices across Canada.
During this time, I continued learning as well. I earned my Human Resource Certificate from Ryerson University and achieved the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designations from the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA). I also received the Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) designation from the Institute for Performance and Learning (I4PL).
I continued my journey at OTEC, a nonprofit focused on the hospitality industry. Here, I managed government-funded job readiness projects and developed training programs for colleges, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, municipal tourism offices, and regional tourism organizations. It was a fantastic experience that deepened my understanding of diverse training needs.
In the past six years, I took a leap of faith and founded my own instructional design business called Impact Training Designs. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with various training agencies and clients across multiple sectors, including education, construction, oil and gas, government services, retail, and health and wellness.
Recently, I moved to Medicine Hat with my husband of 10 years and our two energetic boys. I’ve joined the Medicine Hat Women in Business Committee, and I’m genuinely excited to share my experiences, insights, and tips with all of you. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me!
